The Pa’akai We Bring
April 26-May 5
Produced by Honolulu Theatre for Youth (Honolulu, Hawaii)
This original production introduces young audiences to the Native Hawaiian relationship to pa’akai (salt). Pa’akai is food, medicine, a sacrament, and a treasured gift. The play follows multiple generations of salt farmers on Kauai, blending ancient stories, hula, original live music, and audience participation. The Pa’akai We Bring is a restorative experience for a multi-generational audience.

On Sunday, April 28, at 2 pm, directly following the 1 pm performance of The Pa’akai We Bring, MTYP will host a panel discussion on Indigenous Creation for Young People.
The discussion will be moderated by award-winning playwright Michaela Washburn, who co-wrote Frozen River. She is joined by Frozen River co-playwright, Joelle Peters, Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts, along with BC-based Métis playwright Erin Macklem, as panelists. Joining them all will be Moses Goods, lead creator of The Pa’akai We Bring, along with members of the cast. This event offers an incredible opportunity to gain a deeper understanding about the work of these Indigenous artists as they share their stories and insights about creating theatre for young audiences.
Admission is free! Yes! That’s correct! Also, you do not need to have attended the show beforehand to attend this panel discussion (but you really should see this beautiful show!).
To help us with planning though, we are asking those interested to book your complimentary ticket(s) ahead of time. You can do that by visiting the ticket trove or by calling our customer service team at 204.942.8898 or emailing us at [email protected] and we’d be happy to help.
