Dan Augusta Scholarship Fund 2025 Recipient
The Daniel Augusta Scholarship is intended to recognize and support current outstanding MTYP Theatre School students who have demonstrated enjoyment of and dedication to the theatre arts. This scholarship seeks to encourage students to continue pursuing their passion for theatre by supporting their enrolment in an MTYP audition-based performance company.
We’re proud to announce the 2025-2026 recipient, Scout Simkulet.
In spring on 2024, a committee consisting of all MTYP performance company teachers, MTYP’s School Director and Artistic Director met to choose the very first recipient of the Daniel Augusta Scholarship. Students were assessed based on their demonstrated commitment, dedication, and appreciation of theatre. It was unanimously decided that Scout Simkulet was the student who most demonstrated the wonderful qualities that Dan brought as a student of MTYP.
“I was fortunate to be in class with Dan, and if there is one other person who shares the same excitement for his love of mythology, fantasy, and absolute adoration of Shakespeare, it’s Scout Simkulet. Scout’s outstanding hard work as an actor and great leadership in class made them the perfect candidate for this award in Dan’s honour.” – Spenser Payne, MTYP School Director.
About Scout:
Scout has been a company member since 2023 performing as Babette in The Arsonists, Wayne Hopkins in Puffs and Scott in Evil Dead the Musical, and various roles in Summer Studio. She has a love for drawing, performing and all things fantasy. Her favourite Shakespeare play is Julius Ceasar.
Scout’s Acceptance:
“I am absolutely thrilled to accept this scholarship! Thank you so much for giving me this. I (as you know) can sometimes be unsure of my strengths as an actor, and this certainly makes me feel like I am good at what I do. So, again, thank you so, so much for this, and I hope I can continue to grow as an actor and believe in myself as much as you believe in me.”
Sincerely,
Scout Simkulet
